ITINERARY

Day 1: Cusco – Sacred Valley

We will pick you up around 8:30 a.m., and then travel towards Chinchero and Cruzpata were we will star our tour descending to Moray, one of the most important surrounding Inca Sites. Your tour guide will explain more about the history of this archaeological site of Moray, as you pass through stunning scenery surrounded by steep mountains and farmland with growing crops. Arriving in Moray our guide will explain the importance of this archaeological site where the Inkas worked with plants and foods to adapt the plants to different altitude levels. According to scientific research it is known up to 15 degrees difference in temperature can exist along the terraces from the bottom to the top. After visiting the archaeological site of Moray, we will pass by the Maras village where we will see a church that is over 400 years old. In Maras we will take a small break and then head on to the famous salt mines. This place has been exploited by the locals even from pre-Inca times, which involves making small wells to hold water with salt particles that settle to the base where they can then be extracted. After seeing the salt mines, we will return to Cusco by our private transportation, ending our day out at about 17:00 pm in the city of Cusco.

CHECK AVAILABILITY

Inka Sites Adventures offer daily departures on the Inca Trail (excluding February when the trail is closed).

Since 2000 the Inca trail has been regulated by the country of Peru. This has provided many wonderful things, like clean trails and camping sites, but it has also limited the amount of people on the trail each day. Now only 500 people are permitted on the trail every morning – this includes hikers, guides, porters and cooks. If your date is not available, do not fret, there are many wonderful treks to Machu Picchu – just as beautiful as the Inca trail and not as crowded.
