ITINERARY

Day 1: Cusco – Sacred Valley

Your tour guide will give you a briefing of what to expect, meeting you in your hotel before beginning travel by our private transport to the rural community of Cruzpata. Here we will contact our muleteers and horses, then we will head to the archaeological site of Moray, pass through stunning scenery, surrounded by snowy-capped mountains and farmland with growing crops. Arriving in Moray our guide will explain the importance of this archaeological site where the Inkas worked with plants and foods to adapt the plants to different altitude levels, according to scientific research. It is known that in the agricultural terraces a 15 degree difference in temperature can be found from bottom to top. After visiting the archaeological site of Moray, we take our horses and headed to the town of Maras , we take a small tour of this picturesque village where we will see a church that is over 400 years old. Here in  Maras we leave our  horses, because we will take  our private transportation to the famous “salt mines”. This place has been well used by locals, even since pre-Inca times, to mine salt. A series of small wells hold water which contain salt particles that settle to the base where they can then be extracted. After this tour we will return to Cusco by our private transportation, ending our day out at about 16:30 pm in the city of Cusco.

CHECK AVAILABILITY

Inka Sites Adventures offer daily departures on the Inca Trail (excluding February when the trail is closed).

Since 2000 the Inca trail has been regulated by the country of Peru. This has provided many wonderful things, like clean trails and camping sites, but it has also limited the amount of people on the trail each day. Now only 500 people are permitted on the trail every morning – this includes hikers, guides, porters and cooks. If your date is not available, do not fret, there are many wonderful treks to Machu Picchu – just as beautiful as the Inca trail and not as crowded.
