ITINERARY

DAY 1: CUSCO – TAMBOMACHAY – PUKAMARCA (L)(D)

We pick you up from your hotel in our touristic transport in the morning and head out close to the archeological complex of Tambomachay located at 3700 meters above sea level.  From here, we start our Huchuy Qosqo Trek, ascending until the first pass known as Siclla Q’asa, located at approximately 4020 meters (13,186 feet).  Afterwards we descend for the Inca Trail until we reach a small community where we have a beautiful view of the green valley extending in all directions.  On this path you can see Pisac to the right.  As we reach the small village, we pass over a small bridge that leads to the next pass known as Q’ueullococha at 4185 m.a.s.l. (13, 727 feet) where we have a panoramic view of the mountain tops of Veronica, Pitusiray and Chicon.  We will also pass by a beautiful lake supporting small fish, and a specific Andean duck known as Huallatas in the Quechua language.  We continue our adventure to the highest point of our trek, reaching 4230 m.a.s.l. (13,874 feet) where we can see a large part of Chinchero and the Sacred Valley.  Finally, we descend again until the community of Pucamarca (4010 meters), where we will set up our first campsite and enjoy a delicious dinner under a starry sky.

DAY 2: PUKAMARCA – HUCHUY QOSQO – LAMAY – CUSCO (B)(L)

After a good breakfast, we will start our day’s trek, leaving the village area of Pucamarca.  The valley stretches out to form the Inca Trail partways alongside a conserved area of Incan stone steps that also lead us to the archeological complex of Huchuy Qosqo, strategically located at the peak of the Urubumba Valley.  We will have a beautiful view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas here.  Huchuy Qosqo has Incan buildings made of stone common to the Incan architecture.  We will also be able to see some buildings that were important for agricultural produce.  After descending on our path until Lamay, we will stop for our last lunch, close to the Willcamayu River, now known as the Urubumba River.  After lunch, we have a rest in the village of Lamay and then return to Cusco city by our touristic transport.

VERIFICAR DISPONIBILIDAD

Inka Sites Adventures offer daily departures on the Inca Trail (excluding February when the trail is closed).

Since 2000 the Inca trail has been regulated by the country of Peru. This has provided many wonderful things, like clean trails and camping sites, but it has also limited the amount of people on the trail each day. Now only 500 people are permitted on the trail every morning – this includes hikers, guides, porters and cooks. If your date is not available, do not fret, there are many wonderful treks to Machu Picchu – just as beautiful as the Inca trail and not as crowded.
