ITINERARY

Day 1: City tour + 4 ruins in the Afternoon

Pick-up from the airport at specified time and transfer to the hotel in Cusco. Free morning to rest. City tour is a half day tour, takes from 13:00pm to 18:30pm approx. we will collect you from your hotel and then begin the adventure.

Places to visit:

The Cathedral: The Cusco Cathedral was constructed on top of two ancient Incan structures that were situated in the old plaza of Qosqo or Cusco and known as Suntur Wasi and Kiswarkancha, the palace of Inka Wiracocha.

Q’oricancha Temple: the temple was known as Intikancha “Palace of the Sun” and was constructed by the  Inka Manco Qapac, as a place of sun.  One of the most amazing parts of construction is a stone wall with a 90 degree curve, and an even more surprising find was of an alter with a pure gold plate made to reflect the sunrise.

Sacsayhuaman: This name comes from the Quechua language (Where the Hawk is Appeased, or meaning Speckled Head), and is one of the grand monuments of refined Incan architecture, was a very big city in its period, and according to history, was built  by Inca Pachacutec’s command but was finally carried out by Inca Huayna Capac.  It is located 2 kms from Cusco city with an extension of 3093 hectares, and on the old Saqsaywaman plan corresponds as the head of the puma, considered guardian of earthly things.

Qenqo: Coming from the Quechua language (Labyrinth, Crooked or Zigzag) this place is built of limestone, sedimentary rock of marine origin, which proves that the ancient-time belief that Cusco Valley was once an immense lake is likely true.  These ruins take up a semicircular area of 55 meters in length and support 19 incomplete niches along the wall.

PucaPucara: the name Puka Pukara comes from the Quechua language meaning Red Fortress likely because of the red colored rocks used in the construction, or perhaps for the red colored earth that exists in the area.

Tambomachay: In Quechua: Tanpumacha’y signifies “Place of Rest”, and according to scholars was the original palace for relaxing and spiritual retreat exclusive to the Incas.  It was built during Inca Yupanqui’s reign, which stayed there during hunting days, as it’s built in an area of abundant fauna.

Day 02: Machupicchu full Day

We will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning and travel directly to the train station, taking 4 hours by bus and train to get to Aguas Calientes town. Once we get there we will walk to the bus station to take the bus up the mountain to the Machu Picchu entrance (about 30 minutes and 400 meters above the Aguas Calientes town). After checking in with original passports or ID at the government control check-point your guided tour of the citadel then commences, visiting the main plaza, Circular Tower (Torre Circular), Sacred Solar Clock (Sagrado Reloj Solar), the Sacred Quarters, Temple of the Three Windows and the cemeteries. You have some time to ake photos before you catch the return bus that heads down to Aguas Calientes town (2000m) and finally board the return train and transportation to your Cusco lodging, arriving approximately 09.30pm.

VERIFICAR DISPONIBILIDAD

Inka Sites Adventures offer daily departures on the Inca Trail (excluding February when the trail is closed).

Since 2000 the Inca trail has been regulated by the country of Peru. This has provided many wonderful things, like clean trails and camping sites, but it has also limited the amount of people on the trail each day. Now only 500 people are permitted on the trail every morning – this includes hikers, guides, porters and cooks. If your date is not available, do not fret, there are many wonderful treks to Machu Picchu – just as beautiful as the Inca trail and not as crowded.
