ITINERARY

DAY 1: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMPA (L) (D)

We leave Cusco early morning passing beautiful andes villages such as Izcuchaca and Limatambo along the way, arriving at approximately 9 AM to Mollepata.  Then  we will continue in our transport to Cruzpata where we meet with our horsemen and mules to organize for our start to this hiking adventure.  We head off on foot to Soraypampa, stopping along the way for lunch with an impressive panoramic view of the Mountains and Valleys.  After Luncht, we continue on in the longest part of this route where we can appreciate the snow-capped Umantay mountain (its top at 5460 meters above sea level).  Finally we arrive to our first campsite known as Soraypampa which is located at 3850 m.a.s.l. at the base of Umantay Mountain.

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA – CHAULLAY- CCOLPAPAMPA (B) (L) (D)

After a good breakfast prepared by our expert chefs, we start our hike around 6:30 a.m. on the most import part of the route to Machu Picchu.  We will have great views of the Salkantay and Umantay mountains as we ascend to the highest point of our trek located at Salkantay Humantay Pass, 4500 m.  Here we can observe the glaciers of Salkantay and take a good rest before continuing in descent until the zone of Huayrac Pampa where we will have lunch.  Continuing on, there are beautiful waterfalls to be seen, a variety of birds, and animals such as lamas and alpacas.  The vegetation changes to be full of bamboo, and later different fruit trees near the area of Chaullay.  We continue to our second campsite called Collpapampa (2800 meters).

DAY 3: COLLPAPAMPA – LA  PLAYA (SAWAYACO) – SANTA TERESA (B)(L)(D)

After breakfast we start our trek in a cloudy jungle area full of small waterfalls and fruit trees such as orange, mandarin, banana, passion fruit, etc, and a variety of fauna and flora such as certain types of orchids.  We will arrive to Sawayaco Playa where we will have lunch and a rest before continuing in transport for about 1 hour to Santa Teresa (located at 1900 m).  This will be our last campsite location.  Later, you will have the option to visit the Cocalmayo Hot Springs.

DAY 4: SANTA TERESA – HIDROELECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES (B) (L)

After breakfast and some time to get to know the village of Santa Teresa, we will transfer to Hidroelectrica, where we will have our last lunch as a group prepared by our chef and a well deserved rest.  We then continue our adventure hiking to the town of Aguas Calientes seeing even more variety of flora and fauna, as well as Incan constructions and terraces that were very important in the conservation of Machu Picchu located at the base of this Incan citadel.  Once arriving to Aguas Calientes town, each will check-in to their respective hotels with time to later visit the hot springs located on the edge of town if desired.

DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES-MACHUPICCHU-CUSCO (B)

After breakfast provided in-hotel, we walk together to the bus station where we can take the 30 minute bus ride up the hill to the entrance of Machu Picchu (2400 meters).  We will have the opportunity to watch the sunrise and appreciate few other tourists at this time.  The guided tour of the famous citadel includes passing through the principal plaza, Circular Tower, Sacred Sun Dial, living quarters, Temple of the Three Windows, and cemeteries.  Later there is free time to do more exploring and take more photos before catching the bus back downhill and then the return train from Aguas Calientes to Cusco city.

VERIFICAR DISPONIBILIDAD

Inka Sites Adventures offer daily departures on the Inca Trail (excluding February when the trail is closed).

Since 2000 the Inca trail has been regulated by the country of Peru. This has provided many wonderful things, like clean trails and camping sites, but it has also limited the amount of people on the trail each day. Now only 500 people are permitted on the trail every morning – this includes hikers, guides, porters and cooks. If your date is not available, do not fret, there are many wonderful treks to Machu Picchu – just as beautiful as the Inca trail and not as crowded.
