ITINERARY

DAY 1: CUSCO –ABRA DE MALAGA-HUANCACALLE-PILLAUPATA (L) (D)

We will pick you up from your hotel very early in the morning to start our trip in transport through the Sacred Valley including Ollantaytambo where we will stop for some last-minute buys or breakfast if you like, and then climb the pass of Malaga Mountain (4300 meters in altitude).  Later we head back downhill to the edge of the jungle and location called Chaullay where we take the paved route to the left along the Vilcabamba River to Huanca Calle where we will have lunch and then a guided tour of the archeological circuit of Vitcos Rosaspata and Nustahispana (or White Rock).  We then start our trek on foot for about 2 hours on the Inca Trail, part of Qapac Ñan, until arrival to Pillaupata where we will spend our first night.

DAY 2: PILLAUPATA-PASO ASUTINA- RACACHACA –HATUN PAMPA (B) (L) (D)

After a hearty breakfast prepared by our professional cooks, we start hiking to the Asutina Pass located at 3915 meters.  Along the route we will see a large variety of Flora and Fauna and much geography, like the snow covered mountain of Pillau Q’asa (3860 m) until we arrive to our second campsite at Hatumpampa.

DAY 3- HATUN PAMPA PASO YANACOCHA- MUTUYPATA (B) (L) (D)

After breakfast, we continue on our trek ascending for about 2 ½ hours to Yanacocha Pass (3320 m), then on to the second pass known as Tullutakana (3340 m) where we can enjoy the beautiful passages of the Andeans, finally arriving to the third pass known as Mujan- where we will have panoramic views of the mountains and lakes.  We continue going downhill afterwards to Lacococha, and continue on for about 2 ½ hours to the campsite of Mutuypata.

DAY 4: MUTUYPATA-YANATILE-HIDROELECTRICA- AGUAS CALIENTES (B) (L)

We continue on our trek on an easier route with a warmer climate along the jungle edge.  We can observe the locals of the area and their production of coffee and cocoa, as well as different fruit trees including passion fruit.  We will have lunch in the community of Yanatile, prepared by our chefs, and then take our transport to Santa Teresa and later to Hidroelectrica where we will continue on foot to Aguas Calientes town.  We can see the Incan terraces and constructions some of which are important in conserving Machu Picchu as they are located at the folds of the mountain.  Upon arrival to Aguas Calientes, we check-in to respective hotels.  There is option to visit the hot springs on the edge of town.

DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES-MACHUPICCHU-CUSCO (B)

After breakfast provided in-hotel, we walk together to the bus station to catch a bus uphill to the entrance of Machu Picchu citadel (about 30 minute bus ride).  Located at 2400 meters, we will be able to see the sunrise over Machu Picchu before our guided tour of the famous citadel.  We will pass through points of interest including the Plaza Principal, Circular Tower, solar Sun Dial, living quarters, Temple of the Three Windows and cemeteries.  There will be free time to do more exploring and take more photos before catching a bus back downhill to Aguas Calientes and then a return by train and bus to Cusco city.

Note:  There is option to climb Waynapicchu Mountain if booked in advance due to limited spaces.

VERIFICAR DISPONIBILIDAD

Inka Sites Adventures offer daily departures on the Inca Trail (excluding February when the trail is closed).

Since 2000 the Inca trail has been regulated by the country of Peru. This has provided many wonderful things, like clean trails and camping sites, but it has also limited the amount of people on the trail each day. Now only 500 people are permitted on the trail every morning – this includes hikers, guides, porters and cooks. If your date is not available, do not fret, there are many wonderful treks to Machu Picchu – just as beautiful as the Inca trail and not as crowded.
