ITINERARY

Day 1: Cuzco – Tauca – Huchuy Qosqo – Aguas Calientes (L)

We leave from Cusco at 6:00am in our private transportation that takes us to Chinchero, then follow on to Tauca town, the beginning of our trek (3800.00msl). We start hiking in ascent amidst beautiful mountain scenery with the presence of lamas and alpacas until we get to the top of the mountain at 4500m/14760ft. We then descend for an approximated 1.5 hrs more to reach the Inca archaeological site of Huchuy Qosqo, with 2-level constructions in what used to be a stop in the Inca route to Lares and Sacred valley. After lunch, we continue descending to Lamay, where we will take our private transportation to Ollantaytambo town, and from there catch the train to Aguas Calientes to spend the night in the town. Here there are hot springs if you should like to partake, may touristic restaurants to choose from, and a large hand-craft market to peruse.

Day 02 – Visit Machu Picchu full day / Back to Cusco (B)

Breakfast at the hotel; we walk to the bus station to take the bus up the mountain to the Machu Picchu entrance (about 30 minutes and 400 meters above the Aguas Calientes town) full day Excursion to Machu Picchu, transfer to the gate for admission control of Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, you will participate in a guided tour of the Citadel, visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial (the most important preserved Intihuatana), the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, houses, warehouses, a large central square; and all connected by narrow roads and steps that are surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side. After the tour you’ll have time to stroll around the Archaeological Site at your leisure, with a magnificent view of the whole Sanctuary, and then catch the bus that heads down to Aguas Calientes town (2000m) and finally return by train and transportation in the afternoon to Cusco.

CHECK AVAILABILITY

Inka Sites Adventures offer daily departures on the Inca Trail (excluding February when the trail is closed).

Since 2000 the Inca trail has been regulated by the country of Peru. This has provided many wonderful things, like clean trails and camping sites, but it has also limited the amount of people on the trail each day. Now only 500 people are permitted on the trail every morning – this includes hikers, guides, porters and cooks. If your date is not available, do not fret, there are many wonderful treks to Machu Picchu – just as beautiful as the Inca trail and not as crowded.
