Inti Raymi is a huge event held once a year; it was a party that that was performed by the Incas between the fourth quarter of the harvest and the beginning of the Spring equinox of the Andes (in the second half of the month of June). During the Inca’s time, Inti Raymi was a New Year celebration, or celebration of the Sun, also marking the start of a new agricultural cycle that commenced with July. Today, this ancient holiday is reenacted accompanying Cusco Days, on June 24 each year. The tour lasts most of the day, and pick-up from your respective hotels starts at 8:20 AM, for us to then head to the following locations.

ITINERARY
Qorikancha Temple of the Sun, 9:00 a.m., the Incas made this ceremonial procession to the top of the temple to welcome the sun, whereupon exactly at sunrise, the sun shines just above the famous wall of Qoricancha, then falls upon the Inka parade down below on the street of Amaru Kancha.
Auqaypata or Plaza de Armas, 11:00 am, the Inka Chief and his royal entourage enter Inti Kijllu street to the main square of Cusco, where there ancient and modern Inca culture meets. Here the Cusco’s city mayor will say a few important words.
Saqsaywaman 1:30 p.m., the main ceremony starts on the large open space of Saqsaywaman’s archaeological complex. Four reported regions of the former Tawantinsuyo culture are represented with various costume, music and dance: Qollasuyu, Kuntisuyu, Antisuyu and Chinchaysuyu. Their traditional ceremonies are presented and include the chicha ceremony, sacred fire ceremony, and others. The grand finally is called the Qochurikuy (an impressive final presentation).
