ITINERARY

Day 1: Cusco – Pumamarka

Pumamarca was an ancient citadel located on top of a hill in the  north of Ollantaytambo between rivers Patakancha  and Yuracmayo (White River), dominating a strategic place from which one has a privileged view of both valleys. But a great mystery surrounds these impressive archaeological remains: nobody knows exactly when the citadel was built, or what was its specific function.

The architecture supports Inca-made features, so it is assumed that Pumamarca could have been one of the first settlements in the area of Ollantaytambo.

Before riding, the guide will give instructions and basic guidelines for greater control of the horse, and basic safety instructions. This tour begins with a ride from Ollantaytambo to the archaeological site of Puma Marka. Along the way we see breathtaking scenery sporting terraces with impressive ancient aqueducts that surround the area.

  • After finishing the tour, we transport you back to your Cusco hotels.

CHECK AVAILABILITY

Inka Sites Adventures offer daily departures on the Inca Trail (excluding February when the trail is closed).

Since 2000 the Inca trail has been regulated by the country of Peru. This has provided many wonderful things, like clean trails and camping sites, but it has also limited the amount of people on the trail each day. Now only 500 people are permitted on the trail every morning – this includes hikers, guides, porters and cooks. If your date is not available, do not fret, there are many wonderful treks to Machu Picchu – just as beautiful as the Inca trail and not as crowded.
