The pre- Inca site of Pumamarka and Short Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu is a nice alternative for those people who may not have as much time, not want to hike many days, or who may experience problems with the altitude. This Inca trek is much easy and offers a mega diversity of vegetation to see along the way, as well as archeological complexes such as Chachabamba, Wiñay Huayna (meaning “Eternal Young), a pass through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), and finally finishing the tour in the famous Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. It is a quick but unforgettable experience full of adventure.

ITINERARY
DAY 1: Puma Marka – Ollantaytambo (L)
After breakfast provided in hotel, we will pick you up in our touristic transport around 8:00am and head out by the Sacred Valley of the Incas to Ollantaytambo. If you like, you can take a short climb to Pinkuylluna for a strategic look-out above the Ollantaytambo village and to see the snow-capped Veronica Mountain. After lunch in the town, we will continue through beautiful valleys and see Pre Inca constructions built in the hillsides. Other sites that impress include water channels and Inca terraces with a thousand Inca steps. Finally we stay overnight in Ollantaytambo.

DAY 2: Ollanta – Wiñay Huayna – Aguas Calientes (B)(L)
We will pick you up from your Hotel early in the morning and leave directly to the train station where we catch the train that follows the Urubumba River in the Sacred Valley of the Incas until Km 104. Here we start the trek, crossing the bridge after checking in with original passports at the government control check-point. Right after passing the control point, we will visit the Archeological ruins of Chachabamba, an altitude of 2250 meters above sea level. This was an important place for agricultural products to be brought for transport to Cusco. We then continue the trek until Wiñay Huayna, along the way we will have beautiful views of the Urubumba River and the opportunity to observe a mega diversity of flora, among them many famous orchids.
Wiñay Huayna is another point of visit to learn about the history of these important archeological ruins. After lunch, we continue the trek until Machu Picchu, passing through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), watching the sunset over the famous temple. We then descend by bus to Aguas Calientes town, located at 2000 m.a.s.l. Here you will be introduced to your respective hotels, and have the evening to explore the town, with many touristic restaurant options.

DAY 3: Tour from Machu Picchu – Cusco ( B )
After breakfast provided in hotel, we walk to the bus station to take the bus up the mountain to the Machu Picchu entrance (about 30 minutes and 400 meters above the Aguas Calientes town). With opportunity to see the sunrise, your guided tour of the citadel then commences, visiting the main plaza, Circular Tower (Torre Circular), Sacred Solar Clock (Sagrado Reloj Solar), the Sacred Quarters, Temple of the Three Windows and the cemeteries. Later there will be free time to explore more, take photos, also visit the Temple of the Moon or the impressive Inca Bridge., and then catch the bus that heads down to Aguas Calientes town (2000m) last meet with your tour guided after that if you like, you can visit and relax in its hot springs and finally board the return train and transportations to your hotel in Cusco city.

This is a hotel and is based on sharing a room – either double, matrimonial or triple. There is a single room surcharge if you are booking alone of $30 US per person. Rooms all include private bathrooms with hot showers and wifi. We can also upgrade your hotel if you prefer something a little fancier. Please remember that the service you receive in Aguas Calientes will not be quite as good as Cusco. Below is a list of possible upgrade options, but we can work with most hotels in Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes.
