ITINERARY

Day 01: Apurimac River (L) (D)

We meet at 8.30 am. From Cusco we drive 4 hours through the Andes to the Huallpachaca bridge located at 2,000 meters altitude. It will take us a couple of hours to prepare all of the equipment including self-bailing rafts, oars, paddles, coolers, helmets, lifejackets, wet suits etc. You will be given a safety talk and drills on rafting techniques. We will put emphasis in training all the participants in how to get back into the raft, flipping the raft, swimming a rapid etc.

You will be floating for 2 hours more or less, doing class II and III rapids. Camp will be in a narrow gorge with impressive walls. Here the guides will prepare dinner.

Day 02: Apurimac River (B) (L) (D)

After a healthy breakfast we start rafting around 9:00am. Today we will be in the water for about 6 hours, doing mostly class III and IV rapids , stopping for lunch and arriving to camp around 4:00pm. Today we´ll have tea-time and dinner and sleep on a sandy beach under the night sky of the southern hemisphere.

Day 03: Apurimac River (B) (L)

After breakfast we are going to be rafting through a couple of class V rapids . There are rapids with names such as “toothache”, “you first”, ¨last laugh¨… Twice we will have to portage around a couple of rapids.

CHECK AVAILABILITY

Inka Sites Adventures offer daily departures on the Inca Trail (excluding February when the trail is closed).

Since 2000 the Inca trail has been regulated by the country of Peru. This has provided many wonderful things, like clean trails and camping sites, but it has also limited the amount of people on the trail each day. Now only 500 people are permitted on the trail every morning – this includes hikers, guides, porters and cooks. If your date is not available, do not fret, there are many wonderful treks to Machu Picchu – just as beautiful as the Inca trail and not as crowded.
