ITINERARY
DAY 1: CUSCO – CACHORA – CHIQUISQA (L) (S)
We will pick you up from your hotel in the morning, to start the trip to San Pedro of Cachora, along the way receiving a view of the snowy-mountain-topped Salkantay Mountain (6271 meters above sea level). We will descend into the valley of Limatambo, continuing on to the Cunyac bridge that is located in between the departments of Cusco and Apurimac. Later, we pass the district of Curawasi and finally arrive to Cachora (2880 meters in altitude) where we will start our hike on an easy path for approximately 3 hours until we arrive to Capuliyoc Pass (2800 meters) where we will take in the Apurimac Canyon view, and then the archeological ruins of Choquequirao. With a bit luck you just might get to see a condor in this area, where we will also take lunch and then continue to our first campsite called Chiquisqa (1850 m.a.s.l.). The passage is beautiful with a comfortably warm climate.
DAY 2: CHIQUISCA – PLAYA ROSALINA – CHOQUEQUIRAO (B) (L) (D)
After breakfast we continue on our path to the direction of Playa Rosalina (1500 meters) to cross the Apurimac River by bridge and later ascend a good path to Santa Rosa (2100 m.a.s.l.) where the Cobarrubias family, some of the first explorers to Choquequirao, may just invite us to a typical non-alcoholic drink of the area, an exquisite Cambray or Chicha sweetened with sugar cane. Also here you can observe the distillation process of how they make liquor from sugarcane, and further along the way see a variety of fruit trees and plants like Cactus. We will then arrive to Maranpata where we take lunch with an impressive view of the mountains (at 2850 m.a.s.l.). After lunch we continue our Choquequirao trek that becomes easier, finally arriving to the campsite.
DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO – CHIQUISQA (B) (L) (D)
Very early in the morning we have the opportunity for a guided visit of the archeological complex and to see the sunrise in Choquequirao, a great time for photos, and with view of the Ampay snow-topped mountain (5850 m.a.s.l.). After a satisfied visit of this mysterious and beautiful area, we start out our return route to the Maranpata zone, descending until Rosalinas Playa (located at 1500 m.a.s.l.) where we take lunch and a rest, then continuing on to the campsite at Chiquisqa.
DAY 4: CHIQUISQA – CAPULIYOC – CACHORA (B) (L)
After a good breakfast prepared by our expert chefs, we start the last part of our hike in the direction of Cachora crossing the Capuliyoc Pass and from here have only two more hours of a much more gentle stretch, arriving approximately around noon. Along the way we can appreciate Fauna and Flora exotic and common to the area, with panoramic views of the mountains and Apurimac Canyon. After our last lunch provided by our cook, we return by touristic transport for about a 3 hour trip to Cusco, and final transfer to respective hotels.
